I am a marine scientist with an interest in the biology, ecology and evolution of marine ecosystems in a changing climate. My research career began with a focus on echinoderms such as sea urchins and sea stars, investigating whether they have the potential to adapt to changes in ocean conditions such as increased temperature and decreased pH. I also use natural seawater carbon dioxide vents as windows into the future to study the effects of decreases in ocean pH on animals and special adaptations echinoderms need to survive in these harsh environments. More recently, I integrate satellite based coral mapping with benthic surveys to understand how reef health and associated fauna change in regards to stress, and what factors are important for reef resilience and resistance.
Currently, I am a Sydney Horizon Fellow (Lecturer), ARC DECRA and Westpac Research Fellow at the University of Sydney and adjunct faculty at Arizona State University. Prior to this, I was a postdoctoral research scientist within the Center for Global Discovery and Conservation Science at Arizona State University with Professor Greg Asner, a postdoc at the Carnegie Institution for Science with Professor Ken Caldeira, a postdoc at the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn with Dr Maria Cristina Gambi and a PhD student at The University of Sydney with Professor Maria Byrne.
When I’m not doing science, I love exploring, hiking, skiing, painting, making music and experiencing new cultures! Please feel free to get in contact. I'm always up to sharing my science, starting new collaborations and discussing new ideas.
